Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ IIPP Program Description

In 1973, the state of Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹adopted its own safety and health program, as permitted by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) of 1970. The Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹Department of Industrial Relations, Department of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal-OSHA) establishes comprehensive occupational safety and health regulations that protect the working women and men of California. Title 8 of the Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹Code of Regulations (CCR) mandates that all  Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹employers develop an Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). The IIPP must detail the means and methods each employer will use to ensure the safety and health of its employees. Currently, this IIPP requirement is unique to California. As such, the working men and women of Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹enjoy the unique protection and benefits required by this regulation.  Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹State University, Long Beach (Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹) maintains its IIPP in full compliance with state requirements. The University also seeks to ensure that all of our employees and contractors are cognizant of the requirements of this regulation and that their health and safety is protected by this program.

Injury and Illness Prevention Program Scope

The Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) is the cornerstone program for ensuring the safety and health of all Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ employees. The Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ IIPP provides the framework and context for the University’s overall health and safety program, and establishes the  University’s commitment to a campus culture that creates a safe and healthy environment for our faculty, staff, students, contractors, and visitors.  As required by Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹regulation, all other safety programs and required training are governed by the principles set forth in the Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ IIPP. Training and inspection requirements for other enforcing agencies and/or certifying entities shall be harmonized to ensure compliance with Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹requirements and the requirements of the Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ IIPP. The Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ IIPP must be considered a dynamic document, and as such will be assessed by the campus as required to ensure that the processes, procedures, and responsibilities described in the IIPP are consistent with current regulatory requirements.
